Sue ClowRag Art was created by Ann Davies and Mary Dayton in the 1972 to revive the endangered art of rag rug making. They sourced craftspeople to make authentic tools and Ann wrote some very useful books, when Mary set up the website they called it Rag Art Studios.

Textile artist Sue Clow took over in 2011. Living in Wales, Sue combines textile art with small holding. She has been making rugs and recycling textiles into hats, bags, art pieces and curiosities for more than 20 years. Sue often works in museums demonstrating the traditional techniques, designs, tools and explaining some textile history.

Rag rug making is all about bold creativity, playing with colour and re-purposing unwanted things. Inspired by foreign travels, Welsh textile traditions and a philosophy of thriftiness, Sue encourages her students to see hoarding as a virtue, and waste as a rich source of raw materials.

Sue is available for bookings by craft groups and private parties for workshops, talks and demonstrations. Sue also takes commissions, and has made rugs, quilts and bags for customers sometimes from their precious, personal collections of textiles.

Rag Art Studios is open by appointment for small groups and individuals to book workshops and visits at the studio in Trefenter, Llanddewi Brefi. The workshop is situated on a wooded hillside with beautiful views and room to run outdoor workshops in good weather.
